The start of a school term should be exciting. For many of the families we walk with, it is instead a month of difficult arithmetic: fees, uniforms, shoes, books, and a food budget that was already stretched.
This term, our back-to-school drive closed that gap for 48 children across our children’s home care program and the families we support in the community.
What the drive covered
Each child received a complete school kit: uniform, shoes, exercise books, pens and a bag. School fees were paid directly to the institutions, and children joining new schools were accompanied on their first day by a member of our team.
Why it matters
Children drop out of school for reasons that are rarely about ability. A missing uniform, an unpaid balance, or a bag that marks a child out as different can be enough to keep them at home. Removing those barriers is some of the most cost-effective work we do.
Thank you
To everyone who gave, shared the appeal, or dropped off supplies at our office: thank you. If you would like to sponsor a child’s school term, please get in touch with our team.
